B.S. Chemistry/M.S. Chemical Engineering

As a chemistry student at Seton Hall, you will set yourself apart by graduating with two STEM degrees on your resume.

Our five-year dual-degree program allows you to earn your B.S. in Chemistry at Seton Hall and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Earning two degrees in just five years will give students the skills and experiences to be more versatile and marketable when pursuing future employment or education.

When students complete their undergraduate chemistry degree at Seton Hall, they will then move on to Stevens Institute of Technology to pursue their master's degree in chemical engineering. Stevens is located in Hoboken, New Jersey — only about 12 miles from Seton Hall’s campus — and its waterfront campus offers breathtaking views of the New York City skyline.

Curriculum

At Seton Hall, students fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences’ core curriculum requirements and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry requirements for an American Chemical Society certified degree in chemistry. After three years, you’ll transfer to Stevens to continue your engineering training.

Our Ph.D.-holding faculty members are dedicated to the subjects they teach — and engaged in important research projects — but they also get to know you, the student. Expect small classes at Seton Hall, where professors offer individualized attention and classmates become lifelong friends. You’ll work out a personalized course of study with a department advisor, who may modify the program based on your background and objectives.

Program Requirements

Students may gain admission to this program as an incoming freshman student by selecting the Chemical Engineering (CHME) major on their application. Admission is based on a holistic review of the student's application for admission to Seton Hall and will specifically look for students with strong curricula, science grades and stellar GPAs.

The transition to the graduate portion of the program at Stevens is contingent upon meeting the following conditions during undergraduate studies at Seton Hall:

  • Complete all required Chemistry coursework outlined by the advisor in the first three years. Note, AP credits will not waive science requirements but can be applied as elective credits.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA in all Math and Science courses of at least 3.0.
  • Apply to the master’s portion of the program in the start of spring semester of junior year.
