Poetry-in-the-Round: Julia May Jonas

The first Poetry-in-the-Round reading of the spring semester will bring the acclaimed novelist and playwright Julia May Jonas to campus on Thursday, February 15 at 7 p.m. in the Beck Rooms, Walsh Library. This reading is free and open to the public.

One of the most acclaimed and talked-about novels of the past few years, Vladimir announces Julia May Jonas as one of the exciting new novelists at work today. Julia May Jonas will read from her work and take questions from the audience.

About the Author:

Julia May Jonas is a writer of fiction and plays. Her first novel, Vladimir, was a New York Times Editor's Choice, named a best book of 2022 by New York Public Library, NPR, Time, Kirkus, The London Times and others, and has been translated into 14 languages. Her play Your Own Personal Exegesis premiered last winter at Lincoln Center, and her play Problems Between Sisters will premiere at the Studio Theatre in Washington, DC this spring. She has taught at Skidmore College and NYU and lives in Brooklyn with her family.

About the Series:

Poetry-in-the-Round has brought some of the best contemporary writers from around the world to Seton Hall University for the past three decades. Some of those visitors have included Joyce Carol Oates, E.L. Doctorow, Nadine Gordimer, C.K. Williams, Jonathan Franzen, John Ashbery, Russell Banks, Adrienne Rich, and many others. The series has worked to bring established and up-and-coming new writers to the attention of Seton Hall students and the community.

Nathan Oates, Ph.D., professor of English, is the director of the series.
