About Us

The work of building upon the declaration Nostra Aetate is not merely an exercise in Christian-Jewish relations, laudable as that is. It is an act of service – to God and to divine truth
 - Lawrence E. Frizzell, Director

Who We Are

IJCS LogoEstablished in 1953 at Seton Hall by Monsignor John M. Oesterreicher, the Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies is the oldest academic institution in the world dedicated to Catholic-Jewish relations and is the founder of the only Jewish-Christian studies graduate program in the United States.

Our mission flows from God’s call to serve and be a blessing to the world and is guided by the underlying principles of the constitutions and decrees of the Second Vatican Council, especially Nostra Aetate and the Holy See’s documents to implement the Church’s relationship with the Jewish people.
