New Professional Certificate in Cybersecurity

This new certificate program helps meet market demand for these skills. Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of information security analysts nationwide is projected to grow 31 percent by 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. The Bureau notes, "Cyberattacks have grown in frequency, and analysts will be needed to come up with innovative solutions to prevent hackers from stealing critical information or creating problems for computer networks."
"It's hard to look around today and miss how technology impacts our daily lives. From our connected cars and smartphones that are more powerful than our computers, to connected homes and artificial intelligence like Amazon's Alexa or Google Home, technology seems omnipresent," says Manfred Minimair, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. "But our connected world poses additional avenues for cyber criminals to steal credit card information, people's identities and other valuable information."
Though geared for those with careers in areas that interact with computer and information systems, anyone who wants an introduction to issues in cybersecurity may register for the program. Many positions of employment require a solid understanding of cybersecurity to lead businesses in a secure way, safeguard the privacy of individuals, address regulatory requirements and protect against malicious activity.
The certificate is comprised of three sessions, IT Security and Fundamentals, which is offered in January 2022 followed by Network+ and Security+ in February and March. A certificate of attendance will be provided after successful completion of the IT Security Fundamentals course as well as the Network+ or Security+ course. Enrollment in IT Security Fundamentals is a pre-requisite to enroll in Network+ and Security+

IT Security Fundamentals – January 4-15, 2022
Taught by Eric Lopez, M.A.E., Seton Hall’s security architect and lead security analyst,
as well as an adjunct professor, this course provides an overview of the foundational
concepts of cybersecurity, threats that are commonly impacting organizations today,
and an understanding of how to create security policies that help organizations improve
their security posture. * This course is a prerequisite for Network+ and Security+.

* Note, successful completion of IT Security Fundamentals is required for enrollment in Network+ and/or Security+. Students are eligible to sit for the CompTIA exam after completing one or both courses.
