Diplomacy Students Take On Leadership Positions in Student Government  

 SHUNA with awards at Colombia University ConferenceFor many years, School of Diplomacy and International Relations students have represented their peers on the elected The Seton Hall Student Government Association (SGA). This year, out of the 28 voting members, eight of them are Diplomacy and International Relations students, making up 28.5% of the SGA Senate, despite Diplomacy students comprising less than five percent of the undergraduate student body. Five of the eight leaders hold additional leadership positions within the Senate and Executive Board.

Maryam Ali, a Junior in the B.S. program, serves one of the Diplomacy and International Relations Senators. In this position, Maryam helps to represent the undergraduate body of the School of Diplomacy and International Relations.

Anais Boyajian, a Junior in the B.S. program, serves as the other Diplomacy and International Relations Senator. Both Diplomacy Senators serve on the Student Life Committee, where they are working to create a sustainable forum for cultural organizations to voice concerns to SGA.

Mary Burke, a Junior in the B.S./M.A. program, serves as the Senate Speaker. As Speaker, Mary runs the Student Government meetings every Monday. One of Mary's duties is to serve as a liaison between the SGA Executive Board and the Senate.

Erika David, a Junior in the B.S. program, serves as the Head of the Gender Equity Commission. This is a new initiative that helps to improve gender equity on the Seton Hall campus.

Ryan McMullin, a Sophomore in the B.S./J.D. program, serves as the Head of the CAPS Task Force. This is a new position where a representative from the Student Government directly works with CAPS to meet student needs.

Jordan Rabadi, a Freshman in the B.S. program, serves as one of the Freshmen Senators. In this position, Jordan advocates for the freshmen class, and he also serves on the Finance and Student Life committees.

Arianna Salazar, a Sophomore in the B.S. program, serves as the Vice Chair of Gourmet Dining Services within the Student Life Committee. As Vice Chair of GDS, Arianna works with Gourmet Dining Services to make dining at Seton Hall enjoyable for everyone.

Evelyn Tilelli, a Junior in the B.S. program, serves as the Vice Chair of Housing and Residence Life within the Student Life Committee. As Vice Chair of HRL, Evelyn voices the concerns of students living in University housing to administration.

In addition, there are two non-voting members from the School of Diplomacy in the SGA. As "ad-hocs," these members can work on SGA initiatives, however they are unable to vote with the Senate.

Trevor Conroy, a Sophomore in the B.S. program, serves as an ad-hoc member. Trevor serves as a member of the Student Life Committee and is working to create a University-wide academic decathlon.

Andrew Travis, a Sophomore in the B.S. program, serves as an ad-hoc member. Andrew serves as a member of the Student Life Committee and is working to enhance one of the campus' transportation systems: SafeRide.

The Student Government Association has served as a place for Diplomacy students to develop their leadership skills, advocate for their fellow students, and create a lasting change at Seton Hall. The School of Diplomacy thanks these leaders for their service to our community.
