The Seton Hall esports program is comprised of a number of initiatives across academics, research and student engagement. This list of frequently asked questions and answers will continue to grow as new initiatives launch.
What are esports?
Esports are organized, team-based, video game competitions in a global industry valued
in the billions of dollars. Spectators from around the globe increasingly watch a
variety of games, competitions and live tournaments. Esports includes competitive
video games such as League of Legends (LoL), Rocket League(RL), Overwatch(OW) and
many others that have a significant skill gap between casual and professional players.
Why collegiate esports?
Seton Hall’s seeks to meet a large demographics of fans and players who match with
today’s college students. It is a natural fit for colleges and universities to compete
with each other and Seton Hall students have been asking for university support while
engaging in competition and increasing awareness of Seton Hall since 2013. We want
to provide this opportunity to our students to practice their teamwork, develop career
experiences and build leaders through our esports programs.
Is this an official varsity sport?
Yes! The Seton Hall esports teams compete with the support of the department of IT.
Our players and administrators are hopeful for what future chapters in the organization’s
history may bring. For now, we seek to serve our school much in the same way other
teams do and bring pride to Seton Hall Pirates everywhere.
When will intercollegiate competitions begin?
Spring Competition begins usually in February, Fall competition usually begins in
October.
What is the esports facility like?
With the refresh of the Anderson Public Lab 524 at Jubilee Hall the Department of
Information Technology in partnership with the Seton Hall Esports managers launched
the esports lab in the fall of 2019. Located on the fifth floor of Jubilee Hall, this
space allows all enrolled students to try out new gaming experiences, connect with
each other through intramural competition and serves as the home base of our competitive
teams.
What are the lab hours?
Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Sunday 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.
