Seton Hall's SSBU Team Claims Historic Playoff Victory

In a season marked by redemption, Seton Hall's Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (SSBU) team claimed victory in the NACE's Varsity Plus East Conference 1. Overcoming past challenges, the SSBU team rose to the top of their division, showcasing remarkable determination this season. The Pirates leveraged honed skills and strategies to deliver an impressive debut in the new NACE league. Closing the regular season with a 4-2 record, the SSBU team secured second place leading into the playoffs.  

Capitalizing on a first round bye, the team dedicated themselves to rigorous training in preparation for the tough playoff draw ahead. Their hard work paid off as they swept Randolph-Macon College in a commanding 2-0 victory. The real trial awaited them as they faced off against undefeated Widener University in the finals.

In a nail-biting Game 1, Seton Hall narrowly lost by a single stock. Undeterred, the Pirates roared back in Game 2, securing victory with an impressive eight stocks remaining. Tied 1-1, the teams entered Game 3, where Seton Hall unleashed everything in their arsenal. Seton Hall executed a remarkable reverse sweep, overcoming early setbacks to emerge triumphant against Widener University with seven stocks remaining.

Seton Hall’s SSBU squad demonstrated incredible patience, strategy and skill to claim the first playoff victory in the team's history. Notably, Noah Ferro, the team's captain, emerged as a pivotal force, claiming nearly nine stocks on his own in Game 2. In a true display of talent, the team’s newest recruit, Abraham Ramos, played a decisive role in securing victory in Game 3. This historic win cements Seton Hall's place in the upper echelons of SSBU competition.

Seton Hall University, through the growing success of its esports program, continues to demonstrate the indomitable Pirate spirit, ready to face challenges head on and emerge victorious.
