Father Lawrence E. Frizzell

For 32 years, Reverend Lawrence E. Frizzell, S.T.L., S.S.L., D.Phil., has quietly served Seton Hall University, dutifully representing the face of inter-religious understanding and the search for peace through his work within the Department of Jewish-Christian Studies and the Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies.

Father Frizzell first visited Seton Hall in 1969, when he attended the institute’s first “Menorah” summer program. In 1974, he came to the University to help initiate a program that serves as a cross-cultural forum for exploring commonalities between Jewish and Christian faiths. He worked alongside Monsignor John M. Oesterreicher, first director of the institute, until his death in 1993, and today works as institute director and chair of the Department of Jewish Christian Studies.

With more than 50 publications to his credit, Father Frizzell is editor of Standing Before God:Essays in Honor of John M. Oesterreicher with Seton Hall colleague Asher Finkel, Ph.D., professor of Jewish-Christian studies (1980). He also writes a weekly column in The Catholic Advocate on the Sunday scripture readings in the Roman Rite Liturgy and hosts “Kinship of Catholics and Jews” on WSOU 89.5 FM.

A shy, country boy who grew up in Western Canada, Father Frizzell says the priesthood opened many doors for him. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Seminary (Edmonton, Canada) in 1958 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton in 1962. He pursued graduate work at the University of Ottawa (S.T.L.), Pontifical Biblical
Institute in Rome (S.S.L.) and the University of Oxford in England (D.Phil).

for Finance, Planning and Assessment

Catherine Jeffrey ’98 has a reputation for keeping jobs on task. A quiet and behind-the-scenes professional, she goes above and beyond what is asked of her, consistently completing her work in the most efficient manner.

A native of Grenada, West Indies, Jeffrey migrated to the United States in 1979 and began her career at Seton Hall in 1985. During her 21-year tenure, she has served as a data entry operator in the Office of Development; a clerk in the Budget Office; and as the administrative assistant to the associate provost for finance, planning and assessment, her current position.

Jeffrey’s kind and pleasant nature is an asset to the hustle and bustle of the provost’s office. A dependable employee, she is responsible for reviewing and processing payroll and vendor payment disbursements for the Division of Academic Affairs; responding to questions regarding faculty and graduate assistant data; helping budget center managers with budget, payroll
and vendor payment issues; and assisting graduate assistants and their supervisors with policy and procedure matters.

For Jeffrey, the best part about Seton Hall is its people. “To me, it is rewarding when I get a call, e-mail or card from a former or current graduate assistant or prospective graduate student saying ‘thank you for helping me’ or ‘thanks for listening,’” she notes.

A Seton Hall alumna herself, Jeffrey earned a B.S. in Management from the Stillman School and a Certificate in Information Technology from the College of Education and Human Services. One of her proudest moments: When her daughters, Lorraine ’92 and Debbie ’98, graduated from the University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her five grandchildren and reading a good book.

Thomas Le Compte

A tireless professional who has earned the respect of his supervisors, peers and subordinates, Thomas P. Le Compte is committed to the safety and well-being of the University community.

He came to Seton Hall in 1980 as shift engineer, operating the large boilers in the central heating plant. He later became a refrigeration mechanic, working on both the Law School and South Orange campus before becoming the lead man for that shop. In 1995, he was promoted to his assistant chief engineer in the Department of Facilities Engineering, his current position.

An expert in heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, Le Compte has repaired and replaced every type of mechanical equipment on the market. He shares his knowledge with his team, training them in the complex issues of HVAC repair, maintenance and operation. He serves as an instructor in these trades for Local Union 68, and a teacher in various county technical schools.

A central figure in many University inspections, Le Compte is critical to the campus’ annual fire inspection. A certified New Jersey state fire inspector, he assumes the role of organizer, scheduler and point of contact, working with the South Orange fire inspector. When possible, he corrects noted deficiencies on the spot and follows up to ensure that all violations are abated within the 15-day correction period. He is also responsible for the multiple dwelling buildings inspection, conducted by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs every five years.

Le Compte has been married to his wife, Christine, for 23 years. He is the proud father of four children: Thomas, a senior in the Stillman School; Alison; Jacqueline, who plans to attend Seton Hall next year; and Christian.
