Meghan Murphy

"My dream is to start my own non-profit organization and the leadership program will give me the tools to achieve this."

Meghan Murphy comes to Seton Hall as a freshman from East Hanover, New Jersey. She was competitively selected to serve in the first Buccino Leadership Institute cohort from the College of Arts and Sciences. Meghan lives with her mother, father, and her older and younger sisters. Seton Hall also happens to be her mother’s alma mater. 

Murphy took a gap year after high school where she traveled to South Africa and volunteered at a children's home. Her work in South Africa reflects her predicted major and minor of social work/sociology and nonprofits. "My dream is to start my own non-profit organization and the leadership program will give me the tools to achieve this."

Meghan decided to attend Seton Hall while taking her gap year. The fact that her mother attended Seton Hall and the exclusiveness of the Buccino Leadership Institute convinced Murphy to switch her decision from St. Joseph's University to Seton Hall, "The vagueness and exclusiveness of the leadership program piqued my interest and drew me in." Along with the leadership program, the internship opportunities and Seton Hall's social work program made Seton Hall "unlike any other school" for Murphy. 

In Meghan’s free time, she competitively sails and competes around the country. Murphy is involved with the Strategic Communication Initiative within the Buccino Leadership Institute, the PirateThon club, and works part time at Seton Hall’s Writing Center. She plans on doing the five-year Master of Public Administration program with an undergraduate degree in Sociology.
