Heart of the University, Faculty Retreat Series 2023-2024

Pamela Galehouse

The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.

The second retreat, given by Dr. Pamela Galehouse on the theme of "Grace and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition: Recognizing an Overlooked Facilitator of Intelligence", will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 9-11:00 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Suite and via Microsoft Teams.

Grace is a word used in many contexts. While definitions abound, academics differentiate between divine grace and human grace. Researchers focus on exploring how people experience grace and the benefits of grace-based interventions within communities. Of import to the Catholic intellectual tradition is the role of divine grace as the source of virtues foundational to intellectual development and choosing the good. At this retreat, we will consider how grace and human activity work in concert. We will contemplate if and how we individually, and perhaps collectively, recognize grace in our work within the university.

Pamela Galehouse, Ph.D., R.N., retired as a Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Nursing’s Graduate Department where she continues to serve as an adjunct. She is a GEM Fellow and a participant in the Praxis Program.
