Office 365

More about Office 365

Seton Hall University has partnered with Microsoft to offer Microsoft Office 365 to students, faculty and employees. Office 365's productivity suite enables members of the University community to share documents, access popular Microsoft software applications online and work collaboratively. Starting in summer 2014, the University began migrating all faculty and employee e-mail to the Office365 environment in the cloud. Students were already migrated to Office 365 in 2013.

What's That?

OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business, formerly SkyDrive Pro, provides users with 1TB of cloud storage. Please note that OneDrive for Business (enterprise software) is not the same as the OneDrive service Microsoft offers to individuals. For additional information on the differences, see How is OneDrive for Business different from OneDrive.

Office Online (Office Web Apps)

Use OneDrive to store, sync and share your work. All documents are private by default, unless you share them. The icons within OneDrive allow you to create new files (or folders) right within OneDrive.

  • Click on the "plus" icon and you can create a Word document (or Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation, OneNote entry) and save it to OneDrive. Invite users to review the document or edit it (with the appropriate permissions).

Skype for Business (formerly known as Lync)

Microsoft's instant message and video conferencing product, formerly known as Lync, enables you to communicate with members of the Seton Hall community as well as set up online meetings.  Read more about the new look and features »

Office Advantage

Did you know that you can download 5 full copies of Office 2013? You can now run the full version of Office on up to five machines, either PC or Mac. You can also run Office for iPad on up to 5 tablets.

Office 365 Settings Menu

Click on the "gear" icon to the right of your screen in Office 365, and again on Office 365 settings. The "Office" menu item allows to install the latest version of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote) and you can see how many available installs you have left.

  • Are you a Mac user?  Good news!  In "Office" you will see the newest version of Office 2016 for Mac, ready for download to your computer.  It's the complete package: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and OneNote.

  • Having problems sending emails using the Outlook client?  If you use the Outlook client on your computer to read and send emails, you might find that your emails are sitting in your "Outbox" and not going anywhere.  For most users, the solution is to close your Outlook client and relaunch it.  If you run into any problems, reach out to the Service Desk at (973) 275-2222.

This is a new feature in Office 365: the ability to upload videos to your own channel for viewing by the entire SHU community, or through edited permissions.  Read more about video »
