What is SPSS?

SPSS is a statistical software package that allows users to perform advanced analyses on datasets. Originally, SPSS was an abbreviation for “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences.” However, its use has now expanded to a variety of research fields and industries. SPSS is frequently used by higher education administration for institutional research, by faculty in teaching statistics and analysis, and by faculty and graduate students to collect and analyze research data.

How do I access SPSS?

SPSS is installed in all of the computer labs on the Seton Hall campus. Additionally, you can request an individual copy by completing the request form. Individual copies are based on availability and demonstrated need and are not guaranteed. Individual licenses of SPSS are currently only available to undergraduate students or graduate students who are enrolled in a course that requires the use of SPSS.

Students can also purchase a personal copy of SPSS or SPSS add-ons such as Amos at an educational discount rate. Software Store »

Where do I go for help with SPSS?

Your instructor or research advisor should be your first point of contact if you need help using SPSS or deciding which analyses to run on your data. For technical help in how to conduct a particular analysis in the software, you can use the Help menu within the software program or the resources located at the bottom of the page.
