Dr. Cheema is a strategic communication scholar. As an interdisciplinary researcher, she draws from theories of psychology and mass communication to test media-related phenomenon. Her research lies at the intersection of media, organizational advocacy, and passionate/consumer activism. In particular, she is interested in youth’s evolving activism/advocacy practices, the motivations that underlie these, and how they shape young people’s broader involvement in various forms of collective action. Professor Cheema’s scholarly work has been published in academic journals such as International Journal of Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Marketing, Journal of Media Psychology, and Journalism Studies, among others.
