Munira Wells, Ph.D., R.N.

Associate Professor
College of Nursing

Dr. Wells has been a nurse for over 25 years. Her expertise lies in adult health and acute care, with clinical practice in critical units and post anesthesia care. She held certification in post anesthesia nursing for several years and in 2006 received the Nursing Excellence Award for Clinical Practice in Perioperative Services at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. Her nursing career has included a variety of roles, clinical and administrative in nature, and even a stint as a clinical consultant for a healthcare informatics firm.

Prior to accepting a full time position at Seton Hall University, Dr. Wells had been an adjunct for several years at Seton Hall University as well as at Kean University in Union, NJ. Her experiences at both institutions gave her a broad base in teaching a variety of students – traditional baccalaureate, R.N. to B.S.N., C.N.L. and graduate – using both face-to-face and online format. She enjoys teaching across different student levels and is passionate about incorporating technology into the classroom.

Dr. Wells was awarded the Faculty Development Scholarship from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and New Jersey Nursing Initiative, which allowed her to complete doctoral studies at the Seton Hall University College of Nursing. Her dissertation, which examined the lives of Indian nurses working in the US, was an extension of graduate work with foreign nurses and a deep interest in transcultural nursing. She has presented on this topic at local and national conferences. More recent scholarship has focused on healthy, aging families, with presentations at national and international conferences. She was honored to give the keynote address at Morristown Memorial Hospital Medical Center's Nursing Research Conference on using Intergenerational Research to communicate with aging families in September 2018.

Dr. Wells is a member of several professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Lambda Iota and Gamma Nu chapters), the American Association of Indian Nurses – NJ2 Chapter (Vice-President), the Transcultural Nursing Society. American Nursing Association, New Jersey State Nurses Association (VP of Communications Region 3), and the National League of Nursing.
