Faculty-Mentored Student Research Experiences

As embedded experiences in formal courses, via independent study, or as a senior thesis project, students are mentored by our faculty to learn firsthand how to conduct primary research, produce original interpretations, and construct new knowledge. Student research experiences are showcased at the annual Petersheim Academic EXPO and international, national, and regional academic and professional conferences, journals, and blog sites.

DataLab

The DataLab is a groundbreaking research initiative that aims to advance research activities across all disciplines of Seton Hall University. Funded by the Office of the Provost, this initiative concurrently works to promote hands-on, original undergraduate research and to support faculty research projects. An interdisciplinary project, the DataLab provides data management and data analysis training to students working with faculty on small-scale research projects in all disciplines. Students use many quantitative and qualitative data analysis software such as Atlas.ti, SPSS, Stata, jamovi, and data visualization techniques to analyze and report their project results. The DataLab teaches students to be digital storytellers, and it yields compelling projects that can be published or included in student portfolios and job application dossiers.

DataLab students are required to attend a minimum of four data classes plus participate in hands-on exercises and assignments. For questions, please contact [email protected]

At Seton Hall, students learn through lectures and classroom discussion as well through hands-on experience. Experiential experiences mean students learn by first doing—then analyzing and reflecting. This approach reinforces knowledge acquisition and spurs creativity and focus.
