Residence Life Checkout Process for Spring 2024

residence lifeAs you prepare to depart from your Home at the Hall, the Department of Residence Life wishes to share information with residential students about checking out of the residence halls at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. You should schedule a checkout time on your eRezLife portal via the form called "Intent Checkout Time/Date" for 24 hours after your final exam or by Wednesday, May 15 – whichever comes first. Checkout times are only between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

To receive the checkout information, you must attend your Mandatory Closing Meeting. You should have received the date and time of that meeting directly via email from your Resident Assistant. This meeting will review policies, resources, and other information related to the checkout process.

Checkout instructions, which will also be posted on the outside of your suite door, are as follow:

  • Fridge is empty, clean, and defrosted (24-48 hours prior to leaving).
  • Closets, cabinets, and drawers are empty and left open.
  • Walls are clear of tape, sticky tape, command strips, etc.
  • Surfaces (furniture, bathroom, etc) have been wiped down.
  • Windows are closed, and blinds are shut.
  • HVAC unit is set to 78 degrees (where possible).
  • Trash is brought to the dumpsters adjacent to the building.
  • Furniture has been returned to original positions.
  • Floor has been swept/vacuumed.

To complete your check out, during the checkout date/time that you submitted via the eRezLife form, visit the front desk/lobby of your residence hall after you have completed the checkout instructions. Then, you will receive a key envelope from one of our Resident Assistants. Fill out the information on the envelope and sign your name at the bottom, then drop the key inside. Mailbox keys should please be returned to the mailroom in Mooney Hall B-13.

Starting on Tuesday, May 7 only Seton Hall University students will be permitted as day guests in the residence halls, except for family members who are assisting students move items out of your room. No overnight guests are permitted after Tuesday, May 7.

After you check out of your housing assignment, a professional staff member from the Department of Residence Life and a professional staff member from the Department of Facilities will assess your room for damages. As per communication when you moved into your housing assignment, any damage beyond "normal wear and tear" will be assessed in comparison to your Room Condition Report. Any damage will incur a charge to your Seton Hall billing account. You will receive an email with the "Damage Price List," which is the rubric used to assess damage charges.

You will receive an email to your Seton Hall email account in early June with notification of any damage charges. More information can be found in the Damage Billing Policy.

Finally, you must register your vehicle for the date and time that you plan to check out of your housing assignment. Please use the Resident Student Moving Day Pass to indicate that information to the Parking Services Office. Contact [email protected] with any questions related to parking.

Please contact your professional staff members, resident assistant or [email protected] with any questions.
