CDI Online/Hybrid Course Development Initiative

Seton Hall has a long history of online course offerings and has implemented several quality assurance processes to support faculty in the development and facilitation of online and hybrid courses and programs. These processes include academic leadership approval of online or hybrid course development, adoption of the QM™ (Quality Matters) rubric, access to course delivery tools, and faculty development workshops.

In support of the online/hybrid course development initiative, faculty will receive a $3,000 stipend to develop each new course or $1,000 to update an existing course. Newly developed or updated online/hybrid courses and course materials shall be available to the University for its use, including use by any University faculty who might be assigned to teach, revise or update the course in future semesters.

Online/Hybrid Course Development Proposals

Faculty interested in offering their course online must submit a course development proposal. Submissions will be routed to the department chair for approval, followed by the Dean for approval and prioritization. Completed and approved proposals will be sent to the Office of the Provost for review and selection. If selected, colleges, departments, faculty and the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center will be notified to begin the course development process.

Proposal Approval Process

  1. Submission of an online/hybrid course proposal will automatically trigger an approval request to the faculty's Department Chair.
  2. The Chair is provided a link to review the proposal details, and either deny or approve the request.
  3. If the proposal is approved by the Chair, the Dean is automatically notified of the request. Upon review of the proposal, the Dean can either decline the change in course delivery, or approve and rank the course in order of priority ( 1 being the highest and 10 being the lowest priority)
  4. Once a proposal receives department and college approval, the request is sent to the Office of the Provost for review and selection.
  5. If selected, faculty are notified to begin course development with the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center.
